Art 21

In season 1/2001, I chose the theme identity from artist Louise Bourgeois. Bourgeois work is about the helping hands. Bourgeois working with stone sculptures and plaster casts of hands. After she made the black color of helping hands. She used memory, emotion, and strength to works that make viewer on a high vision level to see her artwork. Also, Bourgeois's work was in Chicago she creative those helping hands that mean to help each other. In addition, I saw some of the artwork from our textbook and we learned about Louise Bourgeois.

In season 2/2003, I chose Kara Walker in "Stories" and her work is Darkytown Rebellion. Kara Walker works is simply about past events. She works with a group of people and act about the story about the past. She talks about a  point in history and act it. She spent a lot of time to work in the studio and all of his artworks are fiction.  There are many things that she want to work and unexpected that she have been doing it.  I like her artwork because it is very amazing and not many artist creatives that kinds of artwork. I would like to create this kind of artwork in our classroom with our classmates. I think that will have a lot of fun.

In season 3/2005, I chose artist Josiah McElheny in "Memory". He works came from the previous source because he used all the previous source to redo or transforming it slightly.  He uses a silver glass to build and do theory with other artists in the "Total Reflective Abstraction". Josiah McElheny wants to be a modern person to show this generation  people should have to check yourself, be a thoughtful  person, and be a smart person. I think his artworks are an amazing because it made of previous source. Many of artists don't think of using the previous source to do their artwork.

In season 4/2007, I chose Judy Pfaff in "Romance" and she was attracted by materials and sculpture. When she comes a painter she couldn't stop her job. She stopped until she finished another thought that didn't work. For the sculpture, they used few months to do it. Pfaff has an exhibition about sadness and loss. that using tree roots, neon tubes, and plaster forms to explore the world of black and white. She is a very creative person because her artworks very detail of drawing and look like the sun but when you look forward you will think it is the flower. When I have material I will try to make my own like Judy Pfaff's artwork.

In season 5/2009, I chose Paul McCarthy in transformation. Paul work at Bossy Burger he used BBQ turkey leg, stage set, bowls, cooking utensils, chair, counter, milk, flour, and ketchup to made it. Paul is a painter and people ask him what is his responsibility to the audience for his artwork. He explains that the difference between making art and making environment. Paul has a studio at Los Angeles and working with his assistant of drawing and sculptures. I think his artwork so messy because it looks like somebody just finish cooking. I like the artwork look clean and comfortable.

In season 6/20012, I chose Ai Weiwei in Change. Ai’s art work Sunflower Seeds and he made 100 millions of small sunflower seeds. Also, his public artwork near Central Park “Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads” Ai has assistants are E-Shyh Wong and Inserk Young.  Ai was interview by Art 21 in 2011. I learned how Ai can make so many small sunflower seeds and put it on the floor. I think spent a lot of time and incentre to do each one. I think I will fail to do it because it small and I don't like to work at the same thing every day.

In season 7/2014, I chose Katharina Grosse in Fiction. Grosse’s artwork “ Just Two Of US” at Metro Tech, Brooklyn, New York, 2013. It was big artwork and paint with different color. Grosses create the colorful sculptural environment and painting. Gross uses boat building techniques to create abstract sculptures and the material record.  I like her artwork because she uses the different color to paint that make the artwork look for colorful.

Contemporary Artist

In artist project 3, I chose a contemporary artist from my country China, Chinese people called him Number 1 Invisible man. His name is Bolin Liu and born in Shandong 1973. Now, he is living in Beijing, China and he is a photographs and sculptures. Liu has his own style of work and he selected scenes all over the world. He needs a long time to prepare unexpectedly almost 10 hours to work. He wears blank canvas and he stands in front of the scenes then his assistant to paint on his blank canvas as same as the scenes.  His artwork is Hiding in the City because he wants to show the city environment influence people’s life.  I chose him because his artwork is very different from other artists and I did not see any of the artists that paint himself/herself in front of the scenes that is the same as the scenes. I think that is a fun activity when I have one in the future I will try it.

Season 4/2007

Museum Team project

              The Oriental Institute

Our team went to the Oriental Institute for a few weeks ago. It was a little hard to find because there are many buildings around it. Also, we asked people, but they didn’t know there was the Oriental Institute. Finally, we use GPS to find out the museum and many trees around the Oriental Institute. Working with classmates is very good because we can ask each other and talk about what we should ask for employee and visitors in the museum. Everybody in the team gives the ideas that make the project better because when we missed understood something than we help each other.  The experience of the interviewing, they tell us more about the art and what they think about the art at the Oriental Institute. From the interview, I can learn more and understand the other country art. When we are creating the presentation, we had many ideas such as words, images, and slides. Our team spends a lot of time to do this project because our team had many ideas of the PowerPoint. I have the bad experience of presenting it because I am very nervous in front of the class and I was saying not clear and maybe some of the classmates did not understand. I think I can do better next time during the presentation. I can something from other team presentations because I learned how they said when they talked about each slide. Also, I can use what I learned from classmate’s presentations for next or other presentation.

Maya Lin: A strong clear vision

I watched a film “A strong clear vision” by the Maya Lin in 1995. Maya Lin is a sculptor. She was the youngest that receive an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts in 1987 at Yale University. This film was about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. She creates Vietnam Veteran Memorial and located in Washington, D.C. She worked very hard with the team to finish it.  My reaction of this film is that she created Vietnam Veteran Memorial that want people to remember who fought in the Vietnam War and many people dead. I think she can show her knowledge of design Vietnam Veteran Memorial Wall. Maya designed Vietnam Veteran Memorial Wall like letter V and posted all the name of people who death in the Vietnam War on it.

Art Institute Trip

In Wednesday, our class took a trip to Art Institute. Each of us has a partner and my partner was Ava. We looked at the artwork and talked about how and why artists created. We explored many artworks and it was very amazing. Some artworks we have seen at the textbook. At 1:50 clock’s, we met with the class at European Modern Art Galleries and Gitte talked about what we need to do. Each pair has to select an artwork from European Modern Art Galleries and do a presentation in front of an artwork and to the class. We needed to talk about basic information, description, and create a poem about the artwork that we pick. I learned a lot of experience during other classmates presentation. Next time, I will use what I learn from my classmate's presentation. I enjoy looking at many artworks and it makes me think a lot of art. I can share something I like and communicate with my partner Ava about what I think about the art.

Experience of AIC website

I have the bad experience in this website because it need time to do because I have to find each of the artwork that I like and explain. I also think about the artists how they creative that look very amazing or surprise. In the first I have a hard time to find out how to add artwork to my collection. Finally, I used 20 minutes to figure out and the internet was so slow and I use a lot of time to wait then I do. But I think that good for learned more artworks and get more experience.

My Collections

This artwork made very detail and it show two people face on the back and the one in front of the cover. Also, it looks make with fabric and I chose it because we have less chance to see this kind of cover in our city.

I love the view of Autumn because it creates how the view looks in autumn and give me the feeling of where I see that  in my neighbor.

This artwork very creative and I see very less chair that create by different of shapes.

I chose it because this basket looks different from other baskets and it is small. Also, use different of flowers that are in the basket.

It looks very colorful and detail. I love this artwork because the first time I saw it I think that the horse running in the lake.

It was a very good artwork because it let the viewer see the tall building at the city.

I chose it because it show me that there are three people sitting inside of the house. There are two people are talking each other and they don't talk to another person on the right side of the house.

I chose it because it look very cool by putting 5 images together and each image has one person on it. Also, there are 4 people were jumping and 1 people was sitting.

I chose this apartment building because it look very creative in the first floor. The apartment building is tall and in the first floor just a few of things to hold it. There is parking space around the building.

I chose this artwork because it has many details and there was a person in the middle of the art. Also, it was something around the person and the person thinking about something.

Data

This is the Dada that I did in class yesterday. I just cut words that I saw and I cut all the words are big.  I learned Data yesterday that mean I don't think anything I just cut and put on the table. Data is without thinking. 

culture center reflection

This is the second time our class went to culture center. This time I explored more about art and people are very creative when I saw those art. I want to know where did artists get the material. I want to try to make model of my dream house.  I also like unique design on windows of the building. There are many different of designs elements by artists. I love all of the designs.

During the 7 weeks of class, our class went to Cultural Center and we saw many of arts. People were very creative that I saw in the cultural center.  I love that people make architecture because architecture is that something that the first thing you found and you made it.  We can create anything that we found.

Public Art

I prepared many work to do this project. First, I check out where are the Public Art that are in Chicago. Then, I listened to Loop Art Tour at blackboard. I print a map and mark down which places that I need to go and see which art work. It save me a lot of time when I prepared. Also, I wrote down information of arts and how do I feel about it. There are many of an arts are big that I saw in Chicago. The audio is hard to understand because my listening skill is not good. Also, I didn’t know many things about art work. In addition, arts were interesting because I did not hear and saw that big art before. When the first time, I listening I didn’t understand. After I hear few times I get the idea. The most interesting information is about where is the art work. I recommend the tour because I can understand and get more ideas of the art. I learned a lot different that artists created and enjoy hug art that are in Chicago. Also, it needs a lot space to place an art. I ask classmates to help me when I don’t understand the art and I search online to find out the art.

toolkit

I explore this art work from toolkit. I like this website because I watch how other artist created and then I create my own art. It is a funny website and I can understand more about what is line, color, space, etc. I created a city by using all different shapes and different colors. I used shapes to make flowers, sun, tall building, house, and sidewalk in my art.

     The object is Vaseline. Vaseline wide is 7.5 cm and high is 7.5 cm. The light is according to left hand side and it is 17 inch high from light. That is little of shadow because the object is small. When the object is big then the shadow will be big. Also, I take a picture of shadow of myself and I think it is the best shadow because it show how big is my body. I take in picture outside of my house at afternoon. The sun is on the top of my back that make the shadow look like that.

Architecture

Architecture Reflection

             I learned a lot of thing about architecture from the book, my slide and on the water taxi ride. In book, I learned what is different between shell system and skeleton-and-skin system. The shell system is built from wood but skeleton-and- skin system make of steel and nail.  In my slide, I learned that have huge nave and built it very different. The four sides of building consists of monumental round arch. And between the arches and dome are curved triangle section. Also, I saw many different of architectures during the water taxi ride, it was my first to take the water taxi. I enjoy it because I see those building that I have not seen it before. Last year, I want to take the water taxi but nobody wants to go with me to take a look of the architecture. The architectures is very big and tall that around the river. It was wonderful and I saw what is the different of shell and skeleton-and- skin architectures on the water taxi ride.

   

    

Assignment #1

   

      I like this artwork because I like the bamboo and wood that the artist drew. The title of this artwork is Elgant stone and it draw by Ni Zan. He was a Chinese painter during the early Ming periods. This artwork was during 1360s -1370s. It place in Palace Museum.  I like the way that Ni Zan drew bamboo because bamboo is small and it is hard to draw. In addition, when first time I saw it and I think it is real bamboo.  Ni Zan showed the bamboo very clear that each leafs that we can see in his artwork. Also, the wood look like someone stand next to bamboo and the artwork use writing ink and brush to made it.
